Understanding Government-Funded Childcare

Learn how government funding works, eligibility requirements, and the application process for your child.

Government-Funded Childcare Explained

The UK government provides free childcare hours for eligible children. Here's what you need to know:

Who is Eligible?

Your child may be eligible for government-funded childcare from 9 months up to 5 years of age. Most families can access 15-30 free childcare hours per week.

How Much Funding?

Eligible children receive 33 hours per week of government-funded childcare.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the UK government website to check your eligibility
  2. You will receive a serial code or reference number from the government
  3. Bring this code to your childminder or nursery
  4. Your childminder will log the code into their portal to confirm your eligibility

What Information You Need

  • Your National Insurance number
  • A valid form of identity (passport or other government-issued ID)
  • An identity verification check (online on the government website)

Our EYS Registration Number

As a registered Early Years (EYS) childminder, I have an official EYS registration number. You'll need this when claiming government funding or child tax elements.

Additional Benefits

Government funding can work alongside Universal Credit and Child Benefit, significantly reducing childcare costs for eligible families.
